Bren, a life-long advocate for nonviolence, met Dr. Marshall Rosenberg in 2004. Awed by the principles and practices of Nonviolent Communication as a practical path to peace in the world, she founded HoustonNVC. Believing that empathy is essential for our species to thrive and survive, she became a CNVC Certified Trainer and now shares her NVC understanding of NVC tools as “Living and Loving Wholeheartedly.” Before 2004, Bren served as a teacher and then formed numerous peace advocate communities including The Interfaith Peaceforce of Houston, a Peace With Justice Committee within The United Methodist Church, Peace-Links, a women’s public speaking group, and also the Houston response to The 2001-2010 Decade for Building a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence. She finds deep meaning in empowering people “to be the change they wish to see in the world” by deepening our consciousness of interdependence and belonging.
